“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” Martin Luther KingThis morning dawns with rain… lots of it… and then the sun came out. The colors are fantastic, what with the contrast the clouds are providing.

Today is a “holiday” in the states… Martin Luther King’s day. He was assasinated almost 40 years ago… I was a small little girl when he was killed…. and it’s still pretty evident that race, gender and class play a part in our cultural paradigm.

That’s what I mean by the “contrast”. If we didn’t have the sense to approach what’s not working, and just stick our heads in the sand on subjects that are “touchy” nothing would ever really change… we’d just remain pretty miserable. But, if we focus intensely on what’s “wrong”.. (gender, race, class) we’ll just remain miserable.

So, what’s a girl to do?

Take the information in, and keep focusing on where you are headed… what is your future full of, your wildest desires? Read what Martin Luther King spoke about so eloquently, appreciate the courage and vision he possessed, and celebrate his influence in your life… you’d be surprised how much of an impact he makes to this day…

His wife, Coretta King became a persistent role model in the civil rights movement after her husband’s death, and her feminist leanings became evident as time marched on….

These are the images that we hold in our hearts that further impact our future, not the “unfair” element, or “why hasn’t this all changed yet” conversation.

Amazons focus forward with respect for what’s been, and even a touch of clarity about “right now”. Be powerful today and show an example of how MLK’s passion may have contributed to your life, and in what way…

Blessings,

The Queen
